A flash fire destroyed a warehouse and Factory of the Lincoln Products Company on Sunrise Highway. The fire was fought by the Baldwin and Oceanside Fire Department. Uniondale FD, June 8, 1959 by Mitchell Field,.
Located at 6 Brook Street, The Camac Applied Labeling Corporation just off Oak Avenue across from the landing field of Mitchell Field Air Force base. Volunteers from Uniondale, Hempstead and Roosevelt were hampered by lack of water. Extremely long stretches of hose had to be laid for the fire. Chief Waraby of Uniondale was in charge at the time. Roslyn Harbor Long Island Fire Scene Feb, 4, 1960. The former Stern Mansion on Glenwood Road. The House was owned by world renowned specialist Dr. W. L. Hughnes. It was a landmark on Long Island for vessels for over 50 years because the houses towers were used as landmarks for sailors. It was also used to host many special events on the great lawn looking over the harbor. Over 300 fireman fought this fire from Roslyn, Roslyn Highlands, Sea Cliff, and Manhasset-Lakeville. On 12 Acres of land the mansion had over 30 rooms plus. The fire was determined to have started in the basement .
